Ontario heirloom cherry tomatoes

Although it hasn’t really felt like summer out her in Toronto this year, there is one thing always marks the summer season – farmer’s markets. It’s hard to believe that there is only a couple more months that these markets will be around as most of them pack it in when fall rolls around.

I can’t really say that I’ve frequented the farmer’s markets that much this year. I don’t know if it’s because of the weather or because the Sick Kids farmer’s market that I usually go to no longer has the vegetable stand that I would visit each week. They were located right on the corner and always had baskets of Ontario grown heirloom tomatoes which were so sweet, I would pop them like candy. I would buy a basket each week.

But the stall is no longer at the Sick Kids farmer’s market. Instead it has been replaced by a vegan food stand and Belgian waffle bar. Alas, I thought I could go without my favourite summer time snack but it’s almost mid August and I can’t take it anymore! I must find my heirloom tomatoes. So I’m on a quest. I am going to visit as many farmer’s markets as it takes to find them. My summer just hasn’t been the same.
