I have been having such a fun time visiting the different farmer’s markets that I’m going to visit as many as I can before the summer ends. It’s also an opportunity to check out the different items that each farmer’s market offers and the vibe of each one. Today’s market was the CityPlace farmer’s market located at Spadina and Fort York Boulevard (a few blocks west of the Rogers Centre).
It’s been a number of years since I’ve visited this area. I still remember when Concord Pacific was still excavating the area to build high-rise condo developments. A lot of building has happened since then and now it’s condo city! High-rise condo after high-rise condo and they are still busy building more. One thing I really appreciate about the neighbourhood are the number of parks, public art, green space and recreational areas that have been designed as part of the condo development. There is a waterpark, an AstroTurf soccer field and public art displays.
I can see this area being a good place for a farmer’s market since there are so many high-rise condos within a small area. However, there is a Sobey’s in the area as well. Not sure how well the farmer’s market fares with a large grocery store being just two blocks away. However, it’s always nice to have options.
I really like how this market is located in a residential neighborhood. It’s a decent size (ten stalls that were lined up along Fort York Boulevard) that carried a variety of fruits and vegetables, organic meats and baked goods. I can see the appeal of coming home from work and stopping by the farmer’s market to pick up some items to go with dinner. And how many people can say that they have a farmer’s market across the street from where they live?
