  • Truvia® calorie-free sweetener
I tried Truvia in my tea and I was surprised at how much it tasted like sugar. I use other types of artificial sweeteners and Truvia was much nicer by far. The price is quite high though, and this might be because it's still new or that it comes in individual packets. I usually buy a large container of sweetener and not the packets. I also found that there was quite a bit of sweetener in the packet. I could probably use about half as much at one time for my hot beverages. I would not use artificial sweeteners for baked goods. I figure it will make too much of a difference and I'd rather have a small amount rather than more simply because it has sweetener in it. I have had GI problems with too much sweetener and so I try to limit it to just hot beverages and the occasional diet pop! Thanks for the opportunity to try it! Overall, I would purchase Truvia for it's "natural" sugar taste and use it sparingly since it's a bit costly.

Hello Shela. :) Nice to virtually run into you here. Hope all is well sunshine!
  • City Snacks - freeze dried fruit
City Snacks look like fruit that is light and airy. They are sweet tasting and 'melt' in your mouth. They have a freeze dried texture which instantly disintegrates when you put it in your mouth. The flavour is that of the actual fruit, which is very tasty. Compared to conventional fruit, City Snacks are extra airy and light. They don't have any added fat or sugar so they retain their lightness. I do buy these snacks on occasion, however, they tend to be a bit expensive for what you are getting, so I don't buy them too often. Although I do love them! If a person is not overly concerned with price, then I would recommend this product, however, I would say that buying fresh or frozen fruit would likely be best. Out of 5, I rate this product a 4 (price is the only downfall).
  • Clover Leaf Tuna Salad Kits
Overall, my favourite things about the tuna kits are that they are portion controlled, very portable and a healthier alternative to other types of grab-and-go foods. However, they do have a lot of packaging (but not unlike other pre-packaged foods). The flavour I tried was Lemon and Pepper. It is not my favourite flavour, however, I did like the crackers. They were creamy tasting and went well with the tuna, however, I would have liked a few more in the package. The tuna kits definitely make it easy to incorporate more tuna (and protein) into your diet and as mentioned, are likely a healthier option than other snacks. I would not eat the tuna kits again, but often purchase the individual cans that Clover Leaf make. I don't think it's worth the extra price for the crackers especially since i can purchase them separately. I would recommend just the individual tunas. Overall, I rate it a 4 especially for the portion control and protein. Flavour wise, I prefer the others, but that is just a personal preference. Was a pleasure to try it!
  • Chia seeds
It was great to try Chia seeds from Nutiva. I used this product as a topping on foods such as cereal and yogurt. I also added it to pasta salad and a rice and vegetable stir fry. Finally, I included it in a fruit and yogurt smoothie. The product combined very well with all of the foods I added it too, except for the smoothie. Seeds are not usually to smoothies anyway! The taste was minimal in the dishes. From a healthy eating standpoint, the seeds are a simple way to add extra fibre, protein and essential fats. Often nuts and seeds are overlooked protein alternatives. I was surprised to learn that they can be easily digested without being ground. Glad to know that we can access their nutrients without grinding. Overall, I would rate this product 4 out of 5. The price is reasonable considering the size of the bag. It was a pleasure trying out this product!
