  • My thoughts on the new Activia Pure yogurt
It was nice to have a plain yogurt with just enough sweetness so it wasn't sour! Less and more simple ingredients is nice. Compared it to Activia vanilla flavour (plain wasn't available in the regular line where I picked it up...Walmart). Interesting that the fat percent is slightly higher in the Pure than the flavoured and the Pure is not as thick. I would buy this again. I had it on it's own and also with granola. Yum! Also interesting that the Pure isn't fortified with vitamin D whereas the vanilla was. Would be nice to have it fortified as well as there aren't many places to get vitamin D in foods and many people are turning to plant-based beverages, which are not always fortified choices. Next test, see if it passes the test of the 3 and 5 year old (Activia) flavoured yogurt lovers. ;). Thanks Lisa!
  • Liberté Greek Seeds & Fruit Yogourt‏
Found the yogurt at Fortinos, then also saw it later at Walmart. Tried the strawberry one. I really enjoyed this yogurt. I like crunchy things in my yogurt, although rarely put them in myself (lack of time, don't have something on hand, forget). Yogurt was smooth and fairly thick (in a good way) with crunchy seeds. Seeds were not mushy which I could see as being a challenge having it already mixed. Yes I would use it again and recommend it to others. From a healthy eating standpoint, the second ingredient is sugar....it has a tiny bit of fibre which other yogurts don't (at least not what I've seen to compare to), good source of protein due to the "Greek" yogurt, and of course good for calcium. The container is also a bit larger at 150 g than other individually packed containers (~100g) and is therefore closer to one serving of your milk and alternative products. Looking forward to trying the other flavour! Thanks for the coupon!
  • SodaStream - sparkling water maker
I made unflavoured water. I looked for the flavouring packets at Fortinos but couldn't find them. I bought a San Pellegrino to compare. I found that it took 4 'presses' lasting 2 seconds each for the carbonation to be comparable. It was very easy to use. Could be a fun way for people who enjoy carbonated water to consume more water. Nice that it doesn't take up a lot of room on your counter and there are no cords. Minimal clean up and only a few parts to clean/wipe down. Personally I wouldn't use it again only because I'm not a fan of carbonated water and only have carbonated beverages occasionally. This could be a good product for some people though if it promotes increased water consumption, especially if it can replace sweetened carbonated beverages to lower sugar intake. Thanks for the opportunity to review!
  • Omega Crunch flax topping
I've never tried shelled flax seed and was looking forward to it. I tried it in yogurt and rice. I really enjoyed the garlic one in the rice. You could taste the garlic - this one was my favourite. I didn't notice the texture of the flax seeds, not that this would have bothered me. I would buy this one and use it again this way and in other dishes. The flax in the yogurt added a nice crunch. You could taste the maple a bit. It's convenient to sprinkle it on things without having to grind it which is nice when you're busy. I would use it again (how often depends on cost) and would recommend it. Thanks for the opportunity to try this product!
  • Catelli Gluten Free Pasta
Thank you for the opportunity to try this pasta! The curiosity has been satisfied! The pasta tasted good. Very similar taste and mouth feel to regular pasta. I cooked it for a few minutes longer than recommended on the box (I always do as we like it softer) and most of it fell apart. Aside from that the flavour was good, I would recommend it to someone who has to follow a gluten free diet as it's one more option that they can have. I love pasta and if I had to follow a gluten-free diet I'd eat this pasta all the time as I couldn't live without my pasta! I would also use this brand again if I had to make a gluten free meal for a few of my gluten-free family members. It would make my life a bit easier cooking for them by having pasta as an option! I gave this product 4 stars because of the pasta falling apart. If it didn't do that then it would have received 5 stars.
  • Chia seeds
I used the chia seeds on cold cereal, hot oatmeal cereal and in banana bread. It doesn't really have a taste. I like the crunch it adds. Interesting texture as it forms a jelly coating when in contact with liquid. People with texture aversions may not be big fans. Cold cereal a lot of it fell to the bottom of the bowl so might not be the best use. Oatmeal cereal couldn't notice a taste, just the crunch/texture. I would add it again. Loved it in the banana bread. Just added it to the recipe, didn't use as a replacement for egg or anything. Even the hubby liked it! One drawback is they get stuck in your teeth! It does add visual appeal or another dimension to your product (ie. banana bread). Overall I liked the product and would use it again. Especially since it is high in fibre and omega 3 it's a good subtle way to add these nutrients to your diet without having to eat a large portion. It mixes well into a variety of foods. I would recommend them! ps. I like the resealable bag too ;)
